Only a few years ago there was a distinct increase in visibility of all things Ottoman and Middle Eastern in this country. The increasing awareness of Ottoman grandeur, the mushrooming of Ottoman cultural and religious associations, the multiplication of publications and so on all pointed toward a revival of things related to our Ottoman ancestors. Needless to add, the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government’s foreign policy and its strong emphasis on the Middle East accelerated Turkish interest in the region.
